|Lindsay Lohan cleared in $100K Hollywood Hills jewelry theft|
Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan, 26, was questioned by L.A. police as to whether she was involved in a heist of watches
and expensive sunglasses from a millionaire's Hollywood mansion. Police have cleared her of any involvement.
The “Mean Girls” star was a named suspect in a criminal investigation sent to the Los Angeles District Attorney, but the case was rejected for lack of evidence and because alleged victim Sam Magid chose not to pursue charges, a prosecution worksheet obtained by the Daily News states.
"Lindsay is glad this matter has been cleared up so she can focus on her upcoming projects,” Lohan’s rep Steve Honig said in a statement.
The 10-day police probe did yield some evidence pointing to theft of cash, sunglasses and other belongings at Magid's home Aug. 18, but it wasn’t enough for a felony filing, the DA worksheet said.
For instance, Lohan’s assistant Gavin Doyle made a “vague admission” the he was at the home with Lohan and others, and that “someone” had sticky fingers, but he refused to name names, the worksheet said.
Meanwhile, a security guard said Lohan was denied entrance to the house around 2 a.m. the day of the alleged burglary and responded with the angry statement, “What, is he in there f---ing some other girl?”
But the investigator found no signs of forced entry to the house and no stolen property in the possession of Lohan or the other suspects.
The DA’s decision is good news for the 26-year-old starlet, but she’s not yet in the clear.
The Santa Monica Police Department still wants to question Lohan about a June car accident in which she collided with a big rig on the Pacific Coast Highway and then allegedly claimed her assistant was behind the wheel.??
“It’s still an open investigation. Investigators reached out to contact her and ask a couple questions last week. They spoke with her attorney,” Sgt. Richard Lewis with Santa Monica Police told The News.
??“There’s a statement that she at one time said she wasn’t driving,” Lewis said. “We know she was driving. She was probably scared, but to lie to us is a whole different story.”??
Lewis stressed the investigation did not involve any charges as of Tuesday.
Lohan pleaded no contest last year to swiping a diamond necklace from a Los Angeles boutique and was sentenced to 120 days in jail because the theft violated probation in her 2007 double DUI case.
She could face more jail time if any criminal charges are filed during her ongoing probation.
